Aren't these lovely? I forget where I got them from - probably some junk shop or other.... I love the illustrations, they are so sweet and rather old-fashioned. Well, nothing very positive has happened over the last couple of weeks - some rejection letters from publishers, and that's about it! Eek! Things are getting quite desperate really. I have some interest from two agencies, so I still have to wait, wait, wait..... None of the schools replied to my letters (rude) and nor did the local paper re. the comic strip (ruder still). Having that monthly salary paid into my bank account seems light years ago, and we're getting very good at eating on the cheap - it's the bills which are the big worry, as good food can still be had for very little, but not so electricity, oil and diesel. I have applied for the Historic Scotland job, and also to be a Supply Teacher, hmmm..... Secondary Schools can be very full-on places, but beggars can't be choosers, hey? It can be so hard doing this, as it's very subjective; when Important People say 'No, thanks', and you get rejection letters, it's hard not to take it personally. Then you get that awful self-doubt niggling away, 'I'm not good enough to do this; who am I trying to kid! ' I try and chase these feelings away, but it can be hard, can't it? I'm working on another Nursery Rhyme, so I'll get that up before too long. In the meantime, hope you're all happy, and life is treating you well.

These cards are lovely aren't they? You've done so well at all the applications, you'll probably find several things happen at once and then have to choose! Enjoy the peace while you can ;)x
Jessie Lilac is a wise one, she is.
Keep your chin up. It will happen!
Gotta keep beatin' those bushes!
Hey you two!
Thanks for your comments - oh you're so right! Gotta keep at it. Actually, I was just on a wind-down Volkswagen (my other passion!) chat forum, and a guy's comissioned me to design him a logo, so it's out there, you've just got to look harder!
x
Alright! Good news!
Don't give up - you're brilliant it's just unfortunate, at the mo, that others are rather slow to realize that! Judith
those old cards remind me a lot of the old Wind in the Willows illustrations, and sort of like Beatrix Potter. (The bathing shrew is precious.) I really hope you find something soon. Being unemployed or underemployed is scary, and does lead to self doubts. Please remain confident in your talents! (and great about being commissioned to do the VW guy's logo)
Good Morning! And Thanks, Guys!
Don't give up Liz. Just hang onto every rejection letter so that one day you can pull them out and laugh.
Thanks for sharing btw.
Thinking of you here in Ireland
Warm regards
April
Thanks, April - I won't give up, I sometimes just feel at 47 I shouldn't be in this position, and I wouldn't be in it if I had worked harder and been more focused as a younger person.....
I know that's a naughty way to think, but some days are just like that I think. Today is better! My pencils are at the ready!!
Wishing you the best of luck in following your dreams...
Nan
