Well, the year is flying past and I am aware that I have not blogged for some time. I suppose this is really due to feeling I have nothing new to say; Of course I could blame it on 'being busy' and running around with work and schools....but the truth is, I am just doing doing the same old thing and my career as an illustrator hasn't moved beyond the boundaries of Dumfries and Galloway. I don't really know what I expected, perhaps not world-wide recognition - but I thought I may have got a little further. As it is, I am still just a hamster on a perpetual wheel, maybe that's all I'll ever be...... I feel if I made a bit more effort and could be more motivated I might achieve something, but I'm kinda tired in a chronic, insidious sort of way. It's not nice. It's not the kind of tiredness a holiday could cure either, as I've quite a lot of those, ha ha! It's the Turn The Clock Back and Work Harder, Stick to your Game, Shoulda Listened to your Art School Tutors kind of stuff-up; Like you need to go back to the start - but you cant. It kinda sucks. On a more positive note, Food in Fluffville comes out next year - here's one of the pictures.

Things are going well at Fluffville Studios PLC, with lots of young people making new residents of Fluffville - we have a hippopotamus, a crab, a camera-man dog called Stuart, three rabbits, Eddie the Elephant and Gnasher the Crocodile (who drives about in a wind-powered car!)
The Fluffville sign is a facia for the puppet theatre and is made using recycled cardboard and squashed-up loo roll - it's that simple!
Many of the puppets have been made by students with additional support needs and everyone is really enjoying the process of making the film, it's such fun! Stuart ( the real Stuart, not the dog!) and I have also managed to film a piano and tin-whistle recital - using a little toy piano from the 1960's and a papier mache tin whistle! I hope you enjoy these photo's showing some of the puppets, I hope to get some video links up soon too.

Yesterday, we held our first Fluffville Films session! I was working with Stuart from Sharkbait Productions at Maxwelltown High School Learning Centre, where the students started to make twelve new residents of Fluffville, including a crocodile, a hippopotamus and an elephant! The young people are thinking about the script and the energy-saving tips they want their puppets to promote - this is going to be a really cool project! I staggered out of school two hours later, covered in glue (occupational hazard!) but very happy with how things had gone. Off to Stranraer on Thursday for Session Two!

Happy New Year! Golly gosh and goodness me! It's been a long time since I wrote anything on my poor little blog - it expect it feels quite abandoned. Since the launch of Fluffville Saves Energy, back in October, life seems to have been a whirlwind of visiting schools, driving up and down the A75, applying for funding for Eco-Schools to continue, worrying about funding and getting some funding...... We also had some terrible weather; freezing conditions and deep snow. I bought a new car from EBay (not a good idea, in hindsight) which then proceeded to break down five times in two weeks! All this must have had a cumulative effect on me, as I got ill on Boxing Day and stayed ill for the next three weeks! It was a flu virus-thing, really nasty and probably came because I stopped working!

Anyway, on to bigger and better things - Tiddles is about to make his debut as a film star! We are due to start working on Fluffville Films in February; I will be working with a professional film-maker and various Secondary Schools to produce a series of short energy-saving puppet shows. Our endeavours will be recorded as a documentary-style film and premiered at our local independent cinema http://www.rbcft.co.uk/ How exciting!

I will also be working on the second book in the Fluffville series, Food in Fluffville, to link with the launch of the new Eco-Schools topic, Food and the Environment. I'm really looking forward to it, as it will have Tiddles and the Bunnies looking at growing their own fruit and veg, making jam, visiting a farm, making monsters out of unwanted food packaging, all sorts of exciting things! (If you are six years old or short and orange!)

So, the year has got off to flying start! Spring won't be long now and planning of trips and things can commence! Watch out for Tiddles in OK Magazine - no doubt he will be negotiating with Dancing on Ice and Strictly Come Dancing before too long! I wonder when I should tell him what my management fee is!

Well, we finally managed to hold the launch of Fluffville Saves Energy and what a hoot it was! Everyone who was invited turned up, including Tiddles, who arrived in his used-chip-fat motor car! He was an excellent host, welcoming all the guests and posing for numerous photo shoots. He is currently 'in talks' regarding a TV series, 'What Tiddles Did Next'.....Hmmm, we'll see.

Puppet-Making Master Class, Part Two!

Here we go, Folks! Dig out your paintbrushes and find those needles and threads - we're makin puppets!

Here is the final instalment of my fascinating guide to making a Tiddles puppet - just think, if we all make one or two, Tiddles will take over the world! Now our puppet heads are nice and dry, they can be painted to make the little characters really come to life. All you need to do after this,is make a puppet theatre out of an old box and write a little play for your puppets to perform! Seemples!

The first thing you need to do is paint the paper mache head with an undercoat. I used a tester pot of white emulsion. This means when you paint the colours on, you will get a nice, bright coverage and it will look brill!

Here are the base coats on with cute little black noses!

Now for the fun part! Painting the detail on the little faces - I used a fine paintbrush to do this, as you can control the furry-ness better. I also used good quality acrylic paint, but poster paint or squeezy paint would do the job! For the eyes, I used stick-on plastic eyes, as they move around and look quite realistic. If you don't have any, just paint the eyes where you want them.

Now you need to make the glove part of the puppet - the bit where you put your hand! I have used felt for mine, but you could use any sort of fabric, as long as it's something which doesn't fray too much. I hand-stitched mine, but you could easily use a sewing machine if you have one. Remember to make a paper pattern first, roughly the size of your hand - you need to make sure your hand will fit inside and not be squashed!

Here is the finished Tiddles, made from recycled newspaper and a bit of felt!

Liz's Puppet-Making Master Class, Part One

My latest project is Fluffville Films - puppet shows, written and created by Secondary School Students, aiming to raise young peoples' energy-awareness. The productions will feature Tiddles and the Stepford Bunnies, and possibly an Energy-Saving Piglet if anyone has a mind to make one! I will be working in six schools, with older kids this time and we will be using a professional film-maker to produce sweet little Fluffville DVDs! If any of you want to see how to make a Tiddles or Bunny puppet, here's how!

The first thing you need to do is blow your balloons up to a sort of puppet-head-size, so not too big! The best kind of fixing method is PVA glue, mixed with water - not too much water, about 1 part glue to 3 parts water seems to work fine. You can use wall-paper paste, or even flour and water if you have no posh glue!

Make sure you cover the balloon evenly with strips of torn newspaper. Don't make the strips too big and it's best to rip the paper, rather than cut it with scissors, it seems to lock together better.

Now add cardboard ears and stick them in place using masking tape - don't worry that it all looks a bit scruffy and random at this point, it will all be painted later. A good way to make a nose is by squidging some paper tissue with glue. It becomes quite soft and you can mould it into whatever shape you need. You then just paper mache over the nose to make it neat-ish.

The next step is to carefully paper-mache around the cardboard tube where you put your finger, ensuring it feels nice and secure. Make sure the tube is wide enough to fit your finger!

Here are the puppet-heads with their final coats of paper mache. They need to dry thorughly before they can be painted. Be sure to tune in next time to see the finished Tiddles and Bunny and how to make the little puppet glove!

I was in a Primary School recently, showing the kids the Energy Presentation. After they had seen it, I got them to design their own 'Energy Saving Super Heroes'. One little boy, who was only about five or six, came up with these fantastic characters, based on 'cops' - the S.W.A.T team (I don't actually know what that means). I thought the whole, 'What can we do to save power?' 'Don't take a bath, take a shower' idea was absolutely brilliant! He didn't have any help, other than watching my PowerPoint of Tiddles and the Bunnies; really good work! He was such a tiny, little guy too! Probably the best thing about my job is getting to meet and work with these amazing kids, they blow me away with their perception and creativity, every time.

Tiddles meets the Queen!

I can't believe this, but Tiddles has had lunch with Queen Elizabeth at a posh place in Dumfries! He certainly knows how to schmooze, that Orange Tiger! The invitation was supposed to be for me, but as I was going to be in Italy, Tiddles said he would go in my place! It's been ages since I've written anything on my poor little neglected blog, for which I apologise, but Eco-Schools has been so full-on - I've visited 64 schools and spoken to nearly 3,500 children! Always accompanied by my faithful Friend, Tiddles and the odd Bunny! I kind of 'see' some of you on Facebook, which is lovely, so please add me as a friend, as it's a bit easier to keep in touch and say Hi. I think of you all often and look forward to blogging a bit more now the schools have broken up. Tiddles tells me his next appearance will be in 'OK' magazine, so watch this space!

There's no keeping up with Tiddles! Here is a little clip about him, now he's a 'famouso Tiger'! (His words!) I have told him that he needs to keep his paws on the ground and work hard - just because he is in a glossy magazine, doesn't mean we have lots of pennies in the bank, or tins of his favourite soup in the cupboard! meanwhile, I'm trying hard to re-arrange official launches of Fluffville, as the book has to remain 'under wraps' until they've been held - it's proving to be a difficult political exercise, with these elections and all sorts of annoying protocol to follow - it's a book about saving energy, after all - Tiddles isn't running for Prime Minister (yet!)

'Fluffville Saves Energy' comes back from the printers on Friday! Things have been very hectic here; with posh launch parties planned, and then cancelled, as some important Ministers were coming from Edinburgh, and you can't do stuff like that near to a General Election. I don't really understand these things and nor does Tiddles! But it's to do with Local Authority Protocol and things like that.... Anyway, we will be having them after 6 May, which gives Tiddles time to buy a new suit and get his fur trimmed. I nearly-but-not-quite got stuck in Italy after our Easter holidays - we got home just before the Ash Cloud. I would have quite liked to have got stuck, as my feet haven't touched the ground since returning - some of the illustrations had to be done again, as the quality wasn't quite right. I also put in a page on nuclear energy, than took it out again as it was incorrect! Stressville or what! Here are a couple of pictures of Tiddles making a junk monster and in his radiation suit, which, as everyone keeps pointing out, doesn't protect his ears!

Well, the launches of 'Fluffville Saves Energy' have been arranged; important people invited, press organised etc. The big, and somewhat worrying question is - will it be back from the printers? I have phoned and emailed, but no one has got back to me yet. I should be more assertive instead of the wobbling wuss that I am! Tiddles, the star-struck tiger that he is, is off to Italy next Wednesday. I told him he better not loose his boarding card this time, and to make sure he has enough euros for everything he needs! Hi Everyone! It's busy, busy, busy in the House of Tiddles! I am working hard to get all the artwork sent off by the end of this month (eek!) and also negotiating for a Secondary School level book! Of course, I have to do all my usual school visits and other partnership-working stuff, so Thunder Birds are certainly Go here! It's good fun, though; I never thought I would be here this time last year! Hope you are all well, I miss reading your blogs and commenting very much, but hope to catch up soon!

Getting started!

It's all very well when you go to a meeting, and show people stuff, and they like it and say 'Yes, great, we want to go with it....' Then you have to come up with the goods, and actually get the job done! I am trying not to be like a frightened (Stepford) Rabbit, frozen in headlights, and move this project along to its next step. I thought if I could get a decent working rough of the whole thing, that would be a good starting point for the publishers to comment / change / edit / abort (Well, hopefully not abort!) So, that's my task for the weekend; no fancy wine bars, retail therapy or ballgowns for me! Nah, I don't do any of that stuff...well, the bit about retail therapy is true! Oh, any advice would be welcome - I am kind of copying what I've seen other people do on the web, as I haven't a clue really!

Well, I can't actually believe this has happened - but it has! 'Fluffville Saves Energy' is going to be published! I went along to the meeting, presented my dummy book, facts and figures - and they said Yes! I now have a lot of work to do, as we are working to a tight deadline, and need to get the books into schools and libraries by the end of March! This means I have to seriously get drawing, and of course, I have to do my schools visits and everything else as normal. Maybe I'll be allowed one day a week to work from home, that would be nice!

It's funny; a year later and here I am, back at my desk with my little attention-seeking kitten squeezing me off the edge! I'm making up a mock-up of the Fluffville book, but this time, someone actually wants to publish it! I think I'm ready for the meeting tomorrow, apart from what to wear, of course! I was 'working from home' today, as my bed was being delivered. I had a lovely old bed, but it was just too small for Bob, Bacon and I - we had to sleep in shifts! Whilst this may be OK for lazy cats, it was not so good for me, so a New Bed had to be purchased. I'm pleased to report that it's here, and looks fantastic - although I had to lug all the boxes up the drive, as 'the lorry couldn't get up the hill'..... Ah well, good job I'm a strapping lass, eh!!

The snow has melted at last in Dumfries and Galloway, so normal service is resumed; schools open, back at work etc. I have a meeting on Wednesday to see if Tiddles will have his first book published! This is very exciting, and I have been busy preparing timescales, facts, figures and roughs for this. I'll let you know what happens, even if it's bad news - in the meantime, please keep your paws crossed for a successful outcome!

I am really enjoying my job as Eco-Schools Coordinator, but I don't want to give up on my dream of having a Tiddles the Tiger book published. I was chatting to a colleague yesterday, and he suggested I try and find someone who can write a story, and I illustrate it. I thought this was a good idea, and wondered if anyone in Blog Land could, or would write a Tiddles story. If you browse through my blog, you will see what kind of a tiger Tiddles is (small and orange!) and you will also find out about his 'friends', the Stepford Bunnies...... They all live in Fluffville, which is a small town by the sea. So, if anyone feels inspired by this, please get in touch! Here are some sketches of Tiddles on one of his holidays, which I hope you like!

Underground, Overground, Wombling Free!

It has occurred to me, as I get out and about visiting Schools with my Eco Presentations, that all those years ago, when I was a Small Person, the Wombles taught us about 'Reduce, Reuse, Recycle', so it's hardly a new thing! The Wombles ( for anyone who doesn't know) are little furry creatures with pointy noses who live on Wimbledon Common. The author Elisabeth Beresford wrote a series of Wombles stories from 1968, and it became a television show in the 1970's - I was a big fan!

I was lucky enough to find this Womble (Orinoco) in a junk shop recently. I will have fun using him in my work with the kids, as they will, no doubt, think he is an antique from the past (A bit like me!) Tiddles and the Bunnies are kind of Womble-like, in their own little way too, as Fluffville has recently become carbon neutral!

Tiddles is a very busy tiger these days, visiting lots of schools with his talk on renewable energy. He asked me to put this up for him, as he has had to dash off again! Here are The Stepford Bunnies cleverly demonstrating the nine Eco-topics which I work to in schools. My job is to specifically deliver the 'energy' topic, but I still help with all the others. It's great fun, and I'm really enjoying working with the kids - they have such great ideas, and are so up for saving the planet, what an inspiration they are! I am finding it pretty tiring, though, and go to bed about eight o'clock every night - but I'm hoping that as I get more used to the commuting etc, I will get a bit more of a life, ha ha!

Well, I've survived my first three weeks! Tiddles and I gave a presentation to a class of real, live children last Monday. The subject was 'Reduce, Reuse, Recycle', so I had a great time showing them rubbish out of the bin, and discussing ways in which we can reduce the amount of waste we produce...the kids were so lovely and enthusiastic! They adored Tiddles and the Stepford Bunnies, and after my talk, we all got down to drawing our own Fluffville comic strips, with an eco-theme! Brilliant! I will show you some of these as soon as I get copies of them, they're very sweet and funny!

Whew! What a week that was! I started in my new post last Monday, and haven't come for air since! I'm really enjoying the job, but I'm finding it pretty tiring, as I have a sixty-mile commute every day now - and there's never anywhere to park the car! I work with lovely people in a very nice office, so all is good, so far! I've been working in partnership (ha ha!) with Tiddles on an energy presentation for primary school children. Here are a couple of pictures of Tid turning his heating down and wearing a fetching pink aran jumper, and being blown by a wind turbine! I hope you're all well - I can't wait to visit your blogs and see what you've all been doing - but first, I have to go and iron all my 'posh' clothes!

Tiddles starts his new job tomorrow as Eco-Schools Co-ordinator.....OK, really it's me who is starting the new gig, and I am feeling really nervous and anxious. I was so happy being at home with my pussycats, drawing Fluffville comic strips and chopping logs. But I didn't actually earn any money; well one or two pennies - not enough for cars bills, electricity, council tax etc. Oh well, ho hum.....

Wow! Tiddles had his interview this morning, and he has just received a phone call to say he has got the job! Well, Tiddles hid in my briefcase and I answered the questions for him, but he told me what to say! It's a wonderful job, as I will become 'The Eco Lady', visiting all the schools in Dumfries and Galloway to help them reduce their energy consumption, and maybe even find ways to use sustainable energy! Tiddles always was a green tiger (green and orange!) and all his hard work has paid off at last! Well done Tiddles!

I have been short-listed for a cool job and the interview is on Tuesday; part of the interview process is to deliver a presentation on 'Energy' to 7 - 10 year old kids. I am going to use Tiddles and his friends to get the message across about ways to save energy etc, as I thought the young people might enjoy the illustrations. I've planned various bits and pieces, and first up is a Tiddles Word search! Now all I need is Tiddles himself to get back in time for my interview on Tuesday - I thought it would be nice if he came with me, so I've bought him a British Airways ticket to get him home. I need to get this job to pay for it!

The Tiny, Totty Caravan is home!

We towed the caravan back from Glasgow to its new home in Kirkcudbright yesterday, and I'm pleased to say it went without a hitch, ha ha! (hitch, get it!) Needless to say, I have been fiddling my head off , ignoring all other jobs in order to get these shots for you all to see! Isn't it sweet? It's so very tiny, that I have to keep going outside to look at it! I can't wait for seaside trips with thermos flasks, sand sandwiches and woolly blankets!

Tiddles has bought a caravan! Isn't it sweet? It's just about the littlest sort of caravan you can buy, and just right if you are a short, orange tiger. We have been searching and searching for a little van like this for ages, and now it's nearly here! I can hardly contain my excitement, as it will be just perfect for holidays at the seaside, making flasks of tea and picnics in laybys. What fun! How jolly it will be! Oh, I'm so happy! As many of you will know, Toad of Toad Hall has a Canary-Coloured Caravan, which he gives up for a shiny red motor car - well, that's what I will get next! A shiny red motor car for Tiddles and I to hit the road in!

Goodness me, I am very late with this one! I've been spending too much time in the garden - and not enough in Fluffville! Here is Tiddles 'drifting' up into the clouds at the Fluffville Balloon Festival. He seems to getting on well with the Stepford Bunnies, which is a good thing - I think! I have my suspicions that they have put extra floating gas in his balloon, as they all have their paws on terra-ferma, and Tiddles is floating. Hmm, strange, isn't it? I'm still not sure about those Bunnies....

Yesterday was so hot and sunny I decided it was a Day for Erecting Old Canvas Tents, and that is what I did! I had great fun trying to work out where all the poles went, and fiddling to my hearts content. Then I took them down again and packed them away in their canvas bags. These old tents really tell a story - I think about all the fun and excitement people must have had, planning their holidays, all their adventures in the sun and rain.... so much more romantic than a package holiday to the Costa Del something or other, don't you think? Well, I intend to use them, and I also have my beady eye on an old VW camper which I think is unwanted. Watch this space!

At last, I have battled with the mountains of junk, some enormous spiders, and so much random stuff it makes me think I must have some sort of a problem.....to bring you, Dear Readers, Tiddles' Tricycle! OK, so it needs a bit of work, bit it will be just the thing for his short legs (balancing problems). Here, also, is Bacon looking cheeky (cute, gets away with anything / everything, looking like that!) and some pics of the garden and inside the greenhouse. Finally, Tiddles 'Big Purchase' - his very own house! He has now moved from under my bed to this bijou residence, on the window sill! (Tiddles' house was £8.00 from the local fete a few weeks ago).

I was visiting my mum at the weekend, and while I was there, I took a jaunt to my favorite shop in my favorite town! Utter Clutter is the most divine junk shop in the market town of Leominster. I went to school here for seven years, and I love this little town very much indeed. I could spend thousands of pounds in Utter Clutter, and imagine how I felt when in a local Estate Agents window I saw the shop is for sale for £139,000! Oh, if only, if only, if only..... Anyway, what I did buy is this this lovely vintage Noddy book for £5.50, a bargain! Maybe I should buy a lotto ticket or bet on a horse, then Utter Clutter could be mine!

How very odd! I was potting-on all these millions and millions of seedlings I've grown (there didn't seem so many when they were just little brown seeds!) and as I bent down to get a plant pot, I saw all these little furry things hiding! They won't speak to me, so I've no idea what they want or what they're doing there....It's odder than an odd thing! Tiddles isn't here, or I would ask - I expect it's something to do with him, an impromptu party perhaps, or a barbecue? Tiddles has bought something rather large (which I will show you as soon as I find the camera usb!) watch this space, and stay tooned!

Poor Tiddles could wallpaper his entire bedroom with our increasing collection of these! This one was nicer than usual though, as there is a little hand-written note on the back! This time, I made a mock-up of a whole Fluffville book, and sent that - begging for it to be returned, as I only made one! I'll find another publisher to send it to and tell Tiddles to cross his paws! Tiddles says hello, he's in the greenhouse potting on seedlings, so I better go now, and give him a hand, as there seem to millions of them!

Tiddles and I haven't been eaten by Stepford Bunnies, or fallen down any deep holes....we've just been really busy with gardening jobs and suchlike, as the weather has been so good! We've made a vegetable garden for a friend, and cleared an overgrown woodland, phew! Hard work for a middle-aged human bean, and an invisible tiger with short arms! Owen wrote a brilliant poem for Tiddles, which made me laugh so much! Tiddles and I have been catching up with our gardening tasks, as we watched 'Gardeners World' on telly, and it inspired us! We have also been doing a bit for a friend - and got rewarded with money! Something nice will be on the supper menu tonight, yum yum! (Tiddles wants chips from the chip shop.) I see one of those bunnies has appeared, but it doesn't look unfriendly, thank goodness!

I had a go at making some little boats out of driftwood to sell at the boot fair, along with Tiddles' cakes. The sail is hand-stitched, with a bunny motif. They have taken kind of ages, though, so I'm not really sure if they'd work at the boot fair, as people want to buy things for pennies, really. Hmm, oh well, maybe I'll just keep them and pop them around the house!

Ooh, these Bunnies look seriously grumpy! I think it has something to do with Tiddles' jumper, but I'm not sure. Poor Tiddles is frightened of them! I am really hoping the weather will be OK for our Cake Shop venture on Sunday - it seems to be raining all the time here in South West Scotland, and I'm worried I'll cook millions of cakes and then be left with them all! I mean, if that happens, I'll have to eat them, and then I'll become lardacious, which is not a good look.... (Tiddles and I are a bit vain, it has to be said!) Well, let's hope for sunny sunshine and a cake-buying public with money to, er, spend on cakes!

I bought loads of these plain wooden frames at our local hardware shop, and I'm now busy painting them with bunny designs ready to sell at the boot fair on Sunday. ( I'm going along to help Tiddles with his cake shop, and thought I might as well take some stuff of my own!) I think a little bunny print would look sweet in each one for a child's' bedroom.

I thought I'd show you a few pics of the garden, as the camera has come back! It's not a brilliant camera, as it's quite old now, and only three mega-pixels, (whatever they are!) but I hope you get the idea. Also there is this one of Bob looking just beautiful, stretched out relaxing! What a molly-coddled old puss! I have to say, I am just a bit in love with my shed, and can often be found in there, fiddling with 'things'. I went to the dump yesterday, (Public Amenity Recycling Centre) and came back with more the stuff than I went with with! Guess what was there? A boat! I really wanted it, but it was sooo heavy, and too big to fit in the back of the car; Tiddles and I really want a little boat, dang!

Ha ha! Hoover is one of my favorite words, I don't know why, I just love it - it actually sounds like sucking, doesn't it? Well, after Tiddles' application form disaster yesterday, I got him hoovering. We are all on a tight budget here at Chateau Kitten, and have to pull our weight! Do any of you remember hoovers like these? my mum had one, and I was scared of it, as I thought it looked like a space ship! ( I was an odd child!) Anyway, we look very spick and span now, with mucho hoovering and polishing - I'll have to tell the cats to wipe their paws!

Right, this Tiger needs to earn his keep! I have asked Tiddles to fill in my application to the Health Board - I've told him that if I get this job, he can have a new jumper (his old mouse one is getting rather worn out). Actually, I haven't been doing any digging today, as I'm rather sore and stiff from splitting loads and loads of logs on Saturday. I've never split logs before, and it was very strenuous indeed! We now have a huge pile of them in the garage, but I'm a little worse for wear! I have filled in one of three application forms today - is it just me, or does anyone else find this sort of thing mind-numbingly boring? I know you have to 'sell yourself', but it's just one of those jobs I absolutely hate. I know! I'll get Tiddles to do the next one!

After all this rooting around for weird old things, I was strangely compelled to show you some pictures of my VW Camper (the one before the blue one!) I currently have none, but if I get one of these fancy nancy jobs, and have to sell my soul, then I'm getting another before you say 'chug'! And believe me, chug, they do! This orange one took us all the way to Italy with two kitties in the back! I felt I had to give her a spruce up before she left, so that's why the first pic is kind of grey (it was sooo cold!) then, I painted her outside our house in Italy - hence the lovely blue sky!

Of course, being Italian, their Gnomes are rather stunning, and seem to somehow manage to look 'right'. The cat was in a shop in Venice, and I think you could buy it, but it was squillions of euros.....

It's Liz and Tiddles! Re-connected and raring to go! Well, only the first bit is true, but non-the-less, here we are! It's amazing how much more I seem to get done when I'm Internet-less - I've gardened, cleaned out drains, painted window frames, baked cakes, ooh all sorts of exotic things! I've sent Tid off to another publisher, the Piccadilly Press, so let's see what happens. This time, I made a dummy of an actual Fluffville book. Fingers, as always, firmly crossed! You know, the less I go anywhere, the more I like it. I love being here, in the company of my three lovely cats, surrounded by the countryside in this wobbly old cottage.... It's pretty much close to being in Heaven for me, and I don't seem to need much. If it weren't for those horrible bills, I would just stay like this. I know if I get a 'mega job', it will only be a matter of time before I burn out again. I wish I could just stay like this, I really do....

Thanks, Quiltcat for the info re. insurance; I have a good relationship with local vet, and kept bunnies and g. pigs myself for many years so that bit's OK.... Our Broadband has been 'switched off' by mistake! I'm so frustrated! Useless flippin DSN companies. Right Folks! This is it! I am planning to open a Bunny Hotel, kind of like a cattery, but for little furry things! We have a large, safe enclosed area in the garden which the previous owners built at considerable expense. We didn't know what to use it for, maybe a fruit cage, or chickens - then I thought of it! A Bunny Hotel! I did some research, and see other people are doing it, and charging quite a lot! No one here has done this, so could there be a gap in the market? I have some hutches coming, and I plan to make a website (when I can afford the £20 for 'Mr. Site'!) Ooh, I could go on Dragons Den and become a multi-millionaire in Rabbit Leisure Products!

Digging for Victory!

Yup, that's what I've been doing today - amongst other things, like trying to get the antique petrol lawnmower going, (it did in the end!) doing loads of washing, cuddling various cats, preparing seed beds.... However did I manage to work full-time! I much prefer my life now, although there is still the problem of the Big Bills, hmmmm. I have had a brilliant idea, though, and I'll be telling you all about it soon; it doesn't involve hot dogs and obtaining expensive council permits, it's pretty brill I think! The latest cooler than cool thing I've acquired on Freecycle is a 1960's Blacks of Greenock canvas tent. Wow! Do any of you know what a real canvas tent smells like? It is intoxicating. I shall put it up and sit in it and sniff it, and be surrounded by memories of Guide Camp, gadget-making and singing around the campfire.....

It really is brill - I have offered things like spare bedding, pots and pans, books, DVDs, plant pots - you name it.... I have received such treasures as greenhouse glass, an actual greenhouse and garden shed, and I'm just waiting to see if I've managed to get a boat!

Well, the weather has gone seriously downhill since I wittered on about wearing my shorts and flip-flops! It's back to being wet, cold and grey, so no planting on today's agenda. I have been lucky on Freecycle, and have a load of greenhouse glass coming tomorrow, which means I can finish re-glazing it after the winter storms tried to destroy it! I don't know if you have Freecycle in the States, but it's a brilliant way of asking for stuff you need, and getting rid of stuff you don't need.....all for free! It reduces impact on landfill, and is an all-together fantastic thing! Me and Tid will have to wait to plant our seeds, but there's always therapy of the retail kind to occupy us!

Do you like my little enamel stove? I was going to get it put in my studio, which is a shed at the top of the garden - but it looks so sweet, that today, we got a man round to give us a quote to get it installed in the kitchen. It will be just the job for those cold days next winter, and you can boil a kettle on the top and dry your socks on it too! I've been really busy in the garden, so haven't done much drawing lately. This usually happens to me about this time of year - I kind of shed my stupor, and get more energised (I'm pleased to say!) I'm getting the veggie patch ready, and have runner, broad and french beans, beetroot, carrots, parsley, potatoes and onions so far.....

Here is a lovely photograph of my beautiful little Bacon-Cat; he squeezes me nearer and nearer the edge of the desk, until I fall off! I have to go and find something else to do until he wakes up and decides to catch a mouse for his tea! While I was working in the garden yesterday, Tiddles was busy himself, making this fantastic scooter and pull-along dog out of recycled wood. I have a big pile of wood stacked behind the sheds for 'one of those days', and this was one of them! We also made a new path in the greenhouse and put bean sticks up ready for runner beans and broad beans. It's been really freezing here today, with a weird sort of sea mist surrounding us, so no outside work; instead I made scones (yum) and drew a Tiddles (I forgot what colour he is, it's been so long!) There is a nice fire next door, so i think I shall go in there after I post this, and see what's on telly.

Wow! What a long time away from my blog and the World-Wide-Web. We had a fantastic time in Italy - in the snow! It was absolutely freezing, especially at night. Our hut has no heating, so the first thing we needed were hot water bottles and woolly hats! Just before we left for the airport, the trusty old laptop finally gave up the ghost, closely followed by my ibook.....A veritable technical disaster, which has resulted in mucho-spending of money, and now we have a swanky new desktop and laptop for travelling about! The computer guys have just finished setting everything up, and here I am! The weather here in Scotland is amazing - today I have been planting my onion sets in beautiful sunshine, wearing flip-flops and shorts, it's going to be the same tomorrow too, so woohoo to that! While I was doing the garden, Tiddles made the sweetest little pull-along toy dog out of old wood; it's so lovely, and he'll show you tomorrow (I've just gotta draw him!) It's great to be back - I missed you all!

There has been a big Fancy Dress Party on the last night of Tiddles' holiday. He went as a Pirate! I really don't know why he is dressed as a butcher with a tray of 'Finest Sausages' - I think it could be something to do with the 'other tigers'.....No doubt I'll find out tomorrow, as he's driving back up the M6 in his little red camper van - I can't wait to see him!

This is what the Italian Guard said to 'Mr' Tiddles when he dropped his passport! I can't believe I am going to Italy next Tuesday, flying to Pisa then taking the train to Lago Trasimeno. It's cool, but I'm already having pusskin withdrawal symptoms - I'll miss them so much. I could quite easily become one of those mad people who never go anywhere, not a good thing. So I guess I'll be going then. Cats will be going to stay with Kind Betty at Pensione Gatti in New Galloway, then we continue up the road to Prestwick Airport. Phew!

Tiddles has gone on holiday in his little camper van, and he's sent us a postcard. I think he's gone to the seaside, but it can't be here, as it certainly isn't hot or sunny! I hope he'll take loads of pictures, so we can see what he gets up to - I wonder who the 'other tigers' are? Can't wait to find out!

Poor Tiddles is struggling with his jigsaw, as his paws are too big to hold the pieces easily. What happens next is that all the pieces go flying in the air! Nasty, fiddly, intricate little pieces! I've heard nothing from the agent re. the USA trip - maybe no news is good news, but I'll be sure to let you know when I hear something. Probably be after the weekend now, so have a great one everybody!
